Key cruising tips
The foremost reason behind such a devoted clientele is that MSC allows children to sail free of cost on most of its voyages, making it very affordable for a family vacation. Further, the cruises aren’t just designed to welcome children, but also go a long way in ensuring they have the most amazing and memorable vacation of their lives. Several of the cruises have in-built LEGO play areas, small water parks, and virtual reality movie theaters.

But here, you are certain to enjoy a stateroom that is over twice that size. Azamara’s cruises are highly cherished by couples, courtesy of its small sized ships that allow for a more intimate and personalized experience. The cruises are known to have a diverse combination of on-ship and off-ship excursions, thus appealing to those who want a well-rounded vacation experience.
Whether you're fascinated by American history, culture and cuisine, or you've enjoyed river cruising in Europe but are now looking to explore closer to home, U.S. river cruises are an easy and enjoyable vacation option. That's partly because the company has an all-American crew, with college kids making up the steward and deckhand staff. The line also doesn't nickel-and-dime with additional charges -- there's no casino, specialty restaurants or bar onboard, and the line includes a shore excursion in every port. Fares also include gratuities, a pre-night hotel stay and transfers.
I would have liked a "lunch bar" similar to the breakfast bar on Deck 4. That would have some MYO sandwich options or some small salads, or maybe a self-serve pot of soup. The rooms are a good size with a lot of draw space.
The enrichment on the ship is first-class, with an enthusiastic river historian who could make even the driest subject riveting. The entertainment is on point for the audience, with musical acts and comedians brought in from New Orleans, Vicksburg and other stops along the river. Don't expect much rock music -- this is an audience that better knows the words to "Old Man River" than "Proud Mary" -- and you'll be fine. And the line does a well-attended cocktail hour before dinner with a full bar.
I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. All the people working on the cruise were helpful and wonderful to interact with. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in local history and sites to visit and is looking for a relaxed atmosphere in which to do so.
Launching in fall 2023, American Glory is the second of 12 identical ships in American Cruise Lines' Project Blue Eagle-class, which features all-new environmentally friendly hybrid catamaran-style vessels. We had a wonderful time and everyone was excellent in serving us and helping us throughout the week. If this ship was doing back-to-back itineraries, I would have begged and pleaded to stay aboard.
Read on for our picks of the seven best U.S. river cruises. They range from seven to 15 nights and visit destinations in 16 states; itineraries take you through the colonial-heritage-rich Northeast, America's agricultural heartland and the pioneer routes of the Pacific Northwest. The second vessel in American Cruise Line's "modern riverboat" series, American Harmony eschews the Mark Twain-esque aspects that have traditionally characterized Mississippi River cruises.
These suites also boast separate living and sleeping areas with floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The ship measures 241feet and carries 109 passengers at full occupancy with 50 crew. In 2024 it will offer the seven-night Cape Codder itinerary, round-trip from Boston. There is a main dining room and cafe and, notably for a small ship, the option for room service. The hub of the vessel is the panoramic forward lounge on Deck 2, and there is also a smaller lounge next to the cafe on Deck 3. Other amenities include a gym, games room and laundry.
